Artist Interview: Julie Heichert
Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Julie Heichert and I’m an artist.
Tell us about your journey as an artist.
From a charcoal obsession, to making candles, to pouring acrylics I've always kept busy being creative. Only two things really turn my mind off into a meditative state and that’s running and anything remotely artsy. I've got a closet full of my creations and am so thankful for the peace of mind they give me. Now being able to share what I create is pretty awesome.
If you could choose one word to describe your collection what would it be?
Mindless. I think it’s great that our society is so focused on mindfulness, but for me personally, I need to balance it out with a little mindless time to just flow.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Vancouver's colours! From the peachy pink over the mountains to the blue of the buildings contrasting against the water.
Have you taken any risks to land where you are now?
This is the first time I'm showcasing my art - so this would be the biggest risk! I know the Squamish community is very welcoming of artists so I'm happy to be doing this there.
Is there a designer or brand with whom you’d love to collaborate?
I'm obsessed with Ola Volo's work, and she was nice enough to take a call from a confused artist (me) about a year ago. It would be amazing to collaborate.
Looking ahead, what do you hope to accomplish?
There's no big end goal for me here, as long as I get to do something I enjoy and share it with people I'm so so so happy.
